So, after making some poe during the blockades today, I was hanging around the inn.  OK, I’ve been hanging around the inn quite a lot lately – hoping to pick up some candy and/or BK trinkets to finish some collections.  So anyway, Kookoruk is advertising an unnamed, light blue Seahorse for 500k – something she’s been doing for the past day or two.  So, I pipe up and say, or you can get a blue one.  I immediately get a tell asking about it.  So, I sell it for 500k with no effort at all – I was planning on asking 550k and settling for 500k so this wasn’t too bad.  And amusingly enough, 5 minutes later someone was selling a named blue seahorse for 380K.  I almost bought it, but I let it go.

Which was good.

A few more minutes, and a guy pipes up for a named tan monkey for 775K.  I was hoping to pay 750K, but I wasn’t going to quibble over 25K, so I took him up on it.  Now all I need are a few more rogue marks, because I’m really not that excited about the monkey being named “The Devil”.  Anyhoo….

Yeah I know – it’s been a while since I posted anything.  Part of that was because I let my domain name expire and I couldn’t get here (tuesdaynite.net – pirate.tuesdaynite.net is a subdomain of that).  The other reason is that I had just been busy doing other stuff.

I’ve been playing some of the alts more lately – trying to keep Ancient Aliens up and running.  I also asked my daughter for her login information and reawakened her pirates.  She hadn’t played in years, but since she had purchased dubs, her account was still alive and active.  So, if you see AtlanticAlex or PacificPenny on, that will be me.

I’ve also been spending a lot of time doing BK hunts for trinkets and candy – I now have all 8 Brigand King banners, and all but Madame Yu’s egg.  I’m actually hoping that once the Halloween candy trinket collection drive ends, they decide to offer Brigand King Dolls – I could go for that.  Anyway, I’ve been BK hunting, going on CIs and SMHs – all hoping for candy to get a trinket doll.  So imagine my surprise when we port after one only moderately successful run, and I’m going through my winnings:

Well let’s see – skull rings, that’s kind of nice – navy atlantean helmet, like I need another one, but OK – Tan and Maroon fancy boots, old of course – blue ippolito, oh that’s nice, some —– wait a second!  HOLY SHIZSNACKS!!  After 4 years of playing this silly game, I finally win a freaking seahorse.  I mean, sure – I already had one I bought at the inn, but it was just unbelievably cool to have finally won one in a booty distribution.

Of course, then I noticed that I didn’t get any candy…

As I’m a little short on dubs right now (and I still don’t have the top hat yet), there won’t be a portrait yet.  Eventually though – then the big Photoshop job with the ship.

I’m out of dubs – at the worst possible time…

For those of you who don’t know what dubs are – that’s one of the currencies in the game Puzzle Pirates.  Like many online and facebook games, there are two types of money in the game – the money you earn in the game (in this case, Pieces of Eight, or Poe) and the money they sell to pay for the game (Dubloons a.k.a. Dubs).  But, unlike the Zynga games, Puzzle Pirates gives you the options to “buy and sell” your dubs in the game to other players.  That means, a player can play the game and enjoy all the benefits of it without spending any actual hard cash at all.  It’s really a neat way to go, and it beats the way the facebook games do it.

BUT – like the real life stock market, the Dub market fluctuates depending on what’s going on in the game world.  Right now, they’re offering a new Limited Edition ship AND running the Gold Box promotion (for 12 dubs you buy a gold box that could have some really neat stuff in it, or maybe not – it depends).  When this goes on, the dub prices climb, because the free players are all trying to buy dubs (supply and demand).  Every so often, they offer a color box promo (buy dubs, and get a limited edition colored box that has special colored clothes, pets, familiars, ships etc.)  When this happens, more people pay real money for dubs, then turn around and sell them on the market driving the price of dubs down.  Again, supply and demand at work.

So where am I?  I not only spent 40 dubs on the latest ship (a skellie sloop), I also found that I could buy parts of Lillyth’s very expensive steam punk outfit cheaper on one of the smaller, less important islands.  So before the supply of black cloth disappeared, I pounced and ordered the outfit – another 20 some odd dubs for that.  So if I need dubs for something else, I’ll either have to pay 2400+ poe per dub (rather than the 2200 they drop to during the color box promo) – or buy them when there isn’t any added incentive to buy them.

Like I said, bad timing…

OK, first let me say this.  If it’s your boat – it’s your rules, and you can choose who you want on board.  That’s fine and dandy and I have no problem with that.

So…  Tonight, I get on – order the newest limited edition ship (yeah, I’ve got too many of them but I still keep getting them), do a few viking runs, then apply for a cit run with someone named Zoo.  Never heard of her, never been out with her, and wasn’t expecting any response.  I’m about ready to move on when she jobs me.  I accept the job, get on her ship, take 5 steps and end up back on Admiral.  No “oops sorry”, no nothing at all.  So I send a tell saying something about not jobbing me in the first place (without adding any of the less than friendly words that drifted through my mind) and then muted her.  I’m tired of people who screw around with jobbers like that.  Out of curiosity, I look at HER stats – apart from the master in sword fighting she wasn’t even close to me.  She also still hasn’t got her Golden Citadel.  What a greenie…

So where does the title come in?  15 minutes later she’s on an island playing poker.  Meaning she sank.

Lillythanne was legendary once before – way back when the rigging puzzle was still new. Then everybody jumped on the puzzle and she slipped down to renowned (most of the time – sometimes higher, sometimes lower).  I guess I can thank the new patching puzzle for my climb back to legendary – the question is, can I keep it?

Yarr!  It be the official “Talk like a pirate day”!  So from now on ye scurvy dogs shud be talkin like a bloody pirate!

OK, not really, but over the weekend I spent time letting Suzy (the dark skinned pirate with the long white hair) have some play time.  The former captain of her crew has been making inquiries into returning as Captain, so I had been logging in Suzy and Al to see what was going on.  While doing that, I saw that her flag was attacking an island this weekend, so I paid a little more attention with her.  During that time, I saw something on the notice board that caught my eye…

A week or so ago, in my Golden Compasses post, I mentioned how Everclearboy wasn’t doing BK hunts anymore.  Well, I was wrong – he still does.  Suzy went out with him for 6 out of 6 on BK hunting and earned more trinkets, a couple of new trophies, and another 4k in the coffers.  Later that night, I sat in on one round of the blockade we were involved in – turned out to be your basic flag sit, so I pocketed my 3k for my short amount of work and called it a night.  This afternoon, I jobbed in on a different blockade and added another 10k to my weekend total.

But in the end, I went back to my little Lillythanne for yet another Erics sea monster hunt – 18k for a relatively short run.  Can’t complain about that…

OK, so I said I wasn’t going to go on a monster hunt with just anyone.  I lied.  I went out with someone I’d never been out with before – and that I’d never heard of.  She had a decent Bnav stat, so I thought I’d give her a try.  Can you guess what happened?

Slow nights tempt you to try out new things – and really, the only thing I lose is time.  Still, I’d rather go out with Cartrunner and come home with 14K for my time – or Viator (aka Jake) and bring home 23k, a couple of trinks, and some – unusually colored clothing items.

Tonight it was 90 poe and a fish.  At least it was pink…

So I logged Lillythanne on tonight, and her bravery badge dusted.  Fun – although I did know it was about happen.  So I looked on the notice board and could find absolutely no reason at all to spend 5 Dubs buying another one.  Instead, it was Emerlaus to the rescue once again.  This time, instead of attacking a flotilla, he had got a big bunch of Brigand King compasses and was doing hunts.

Now, I used to go out with Everclearboy, because he was simply awesome at finding BKs before the invention of the BK compass.  But since then, he seems to have lost interest in them – I guess he thinks they’re too easy now.  Anyway, instead of wasting time with less than wonderful bnavvers trying to sink sea monsters, I went out with a guy who knows how to get a decent sized ship to attack, and can get the hook in quick.  In less than an hour, I got 6 new trophies for my pirate page (my September seal, a bronze Merchant Brig, and 4 bronze BK trophies), 7 new BK trinkets, 7K in poe, and my conqueror stat went from obscure to renowned.  The last SMH I was on wasted 2 hours of my time, left my eyes watering, and only got me 7k and nothing else.

Definately liking going out with Emerlaus…
